Shilan N. Shah

Solicitor

I was born in Nairobi and came to the UK for my further studies, the intention being to return to practice in Nairobi after qualifying. I qualified as a solicitor in the UK in 1983, since which time, I have practised in the Harrow area. I am also qualified as an advocate of the Supreme Court of Kenya.

Upon qualifying, I was offered equity partnership by my training principal; something that was unheard of at the time, and even now. It was too good an opportunity to pass on, so I accepted the offer, meaning to return to Kenya in due course. That has not happened yet, but I am working on returning back home, one day soon!

I am a second generation Kenya Society member

Nonetheless, I retained my links with Kenya, developing various clients and contacts. Indeed, Mr Tudor Jackson, the first Principal at the Kenya School of Law following independence, upon retiring, joined my firm as a consultant for a few years.

My firm, Everatts LLP is a general practice, with a litigation and commercial specialism. We continue to serve a number of clients in Kenya and some of the Kenyan diaspora in the UK.

My father, the late Nemchand Shah, was on the committee of the Kenya Society for a number of years, and who introduced me to the Kenya Society, where I have been a member for a period in excess of 15 years. In my spare time, I play golf, work out, and cook occasionally.
